We imagine you noticed that it’s been anything but calm seas recently, as the weekend storm whipped the bay into a wild frenzy that kept fishermen in their harbors. Having anticipated this, Santa Cruz fisherman and king-of-crab Ken Miller got out in the middle of last week and pulled his crab traps. Ken was holding on to this Dungeness crab for us in a saltwater holding tank, and we were planning on being able to distribute Ken’s crab to you this Tuesday 12/4. However, we have learned that much of the crab was compromised by freshwater from the rain. The quality’s not going to cut it, so we are sorry to inform you that there will NOT be a Local Catch distribution this Tuesday 12/4.
Of course, no one will be charged for this week. If you had a Webstore order for abalone, a T-shirt, or an extra share, we are postponing your order until next week 12/11. We will resume with deliveries as normal for Tuesday, December 11, and automatic account payments scheduled to occur this week will also be postponed until next week.
Thank you so much for your understanding. As much as we were excited to provide you all with crab this week, the reality of eating local is that our local fisheries are directly impacted by the weather. Please see our news items below and look for us at the Independent Marketplace in Sand City this Thursday December 6, from 4-9pm.
Until next week,
Oren and Alan
